Another great week at Les Capucines (were here last year as well) this time with a small group of friends. We are all returning relaxed and fatter!! Lovely day trips, followed by afternoons around the pool. A mixture of BBQs, great restaurants and being catered for on-site.
Mark and Margy are great hosts and ensured that everything ran as smooth as possible. Weather was incredible for late September and we couldn’t have wished for more.

What a super time we’ve had with 21 of us, primarily for a 60th birthday, with an age range of 1 – 72 all enjoying the swimming challenges, badminton, boules and ping pong matches. The trampoline and playground were also very popular with the younger kids.
Fabulous property to enjoy with some wonderful days out, including beaches at Fouras, Ile de Re, the aquarium at La Rochelle (a must for the kiddies and adults alike!) and visiting charming local villages for a leisurely lunch or a wander.

We did not want to leave this morning! A beautiful property with fabulous weather and fantastic company. Massages were brilliant and very worthwhile having to aid our relaxation in this truly beautiful place!
Our week has gone by very quickly and we have enjoyed it so much we wished we had booked for another week! We’ve spent so much time enjoying the stay, mostly by the pool and around the property. Such beautifully kept surroundings has helped make the most of the stay and we’ve all managed to really relax!
For all 21 of us it’s been so comfortable with lots of unexpected bonuses thrown in too, like a paddling pool for the 2 year old which was a life saver!

A wonderful setting to gather together for 1 grandparent, 5 adult children plus partners and 10 grandchildren. The facilities and location were perfect for our needs. We’ve all been to campsites with smaller pools!

A lovely week that went by too quickly! Great facilities – perfect for our large group. Lots of new memories made of special family times. Loved the weather board updates and a big thank you to Mark for his photographic skills! We especially loved the fact that, having visited France for the past 5 years, this was the first time we got no mozzie bites!

Thank you for a fantastic holiday here in Les Capucines. The accommodation is 1st class. We have loved the pool, the table tennis and all the space. We have also loved this area of France, loads to do and see…lots still to do another time! Thanks for the restaurant recommendation last night, we all loved it.

What a wonderful week we have had in Les Capucines, thank you both so much. You have been brilliant hosts and looked after us all very well. Such comfortable gites with everything we could possibly need, especially constant boiling hot water. It has been such a treat to have the lovely pool and garden with a difficult decision each day as to whether to go on a trip or stay behind and enjoy it!

24 adults and 7 children had a fabulous time celebrating Gary’s 60th. So much fun and precious memories have been made during our weeks stay. We have loved every moment and the facilities and hosts have been the best.
21 grown-ups (sort of!) and a little one all had a fantastic week at Les Capucines. The house and grounds, especially the pool, are all beautiful and your hospitality has been fantastic.
Perfect venue for our 19-person multi-generational family holiday. Superb weather meant we hardly left the property, except for food shopping! Swimming pool is large and with enough sunbeds and umbrellas for all. Extensive grounds allow scope for games, quiet times under trees and family al fresco eating. The gîtes themselves are all very well equipped and spacious, with enough room in the largest (Le Manoir) for everyone to congregate in the evenings for indoor activities. The hosts, Mark & Margy, couldn’t have been more helpful – attentive to our needs without ever being intrusive. We wouldn’t hesitate to return if the opportunity arises. Fantastic value for money and a holiday which will last long in the memory.
Wonderful family holiday for wedding in Saintes. We had 25 in our group ranging from 4 to 76! All the houses have great facilities, making it feel like home from home. Mark and Margy go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need and are full of local knowledge to make your holiday as active as you wish. They were especially helpful when one of the children in our group became ill and needed to visit a doctor. The pool and the well kept gardens were enjoyed by young and old alike and we even managed to bbq and eat together which was lovely. Thanks for a wonderful family holiday.
Dear Mark and Margy Thank you both so much for making our holiday so special. We have had the perfect hosts, superb accommodation, a lovely pool and wonderful weather. You always go the extra mile to make our stay so memorable and we really do appreciate it. This annual holiday is so special for us – a chance for grandparents to spend time with children and grandchildren, for siblings to catch up and for cousins to get to know each other. We didn’t want to leave but we are already looking forward to next year. With very best wishes.
This was our second visit to Les Capucines – a homely Charentaise farmhouse (divided into three properties) which accommodated 15 of us with ease. The properties are comfortably furnished, clean and well equipped and Mark and Margy are exceptionally welcoming. Given the extreme heat this year, we spent a lot of our time either in the pool or relaxing beside it – although we still managed a couple of visits to the beach to surf, a trip to Saintes for some retail therapy, a trip to the river at Taillebourg and (for some of us) an afternoon canoeing at Jarnac. Our family party ranged in age from seven to seventy-something and everyone enjoyed themselves; so much so, in fact, that we’ll be returning next summer. Les Capucines is a fantastic holiday home-from-home and a great base from which to explore the Charente region.
Nous avions loué les 3 gites pour un groupe de 26 personnes durant une semaine. Le séjour a été formidable. Nous étions avec 16 enfants et 10 adultes, et tous on appréciés les gites, l’acceuil Des propriétaires (Margy et Mark) et l’environement fournis avec le gite (piscine, ping pong badminton, baby foot, …etc. Nous avons pu regrouper les table et manger tous ensemble sur le gazon, à l’ombre des arbres…et regarder le match de foot de la coupe du monde ! Une semaine fantastique! Merci à Margy et Mark pour leur hospitalité.
Les Caps is a gem of a find. If you’re looking for a beautiful property with lots of character in a beautiful unspoilt location, this is for you. It’s very quiet and peaceful with a few houses next door so not remote. We had a family holiday with 15 of us in total (incl 5 children) and there is plenty of space for more in this huge property (we hired the full space). Mark and Margy couldn’t have done more. Their communication beforehand was excellent providing all necessary info and answering any queries we had. Little things provided to use were great – bottle of wine, milk, washing powder, veg and herbs from there small veg plot and setting the bbqs up so they were ready to go were hugely appreciated and a lovely touch. The pool is fantastic and secure so little ones can’t access. There is lots of garden space and shade if needed too. It’s just 40 mins from the airport or lomg, easy drive from St Malo and there’s a huge amount to do in the nearby area should you wish to explore. We highly recommend and hope you enjoy this fantastic location as much as we did.

Avec en plus l’accueil chaleureux et bienveillant de Mark et Magdy discrets mais toujours présents. Semaine magnifique dans une région charmante bien adaptée à la pratique du cyclotourisme et attractive avec la proximité de l’océan et des îles de Ré et d’Oleron.
Amazing, plain and simple! Fantastic facilities which accommodated all 18 of us. Each gite had its own feel and energy all of which was warm and positive.

THANK YOU so much for your warm welcome and care for us in your beautiful gites in such a beautiful setting. So amazingly well equipped with the much loved pool, garden and kids playground loved by all from 10 months to 67 years! Have loved playing tennis, with free courts just up the road, as well as family games in the garden.
Trips to Fouras, Saintes, BBQs accompanied by lots of wine, cheese and baguettes, the miniature boats etc etc. We had a really special time together as a family – so many, many thanks!
All 22 of us (plus Frisbee the local golden retriever) have had a fantastic week! What a treat for all four families, plus our granny and grandpa, to be able to spend time together. We ate outside every evening and enjoyed relaxing and chatting…we all loved the pool too!

We have had the most fabulous 2 weeks. Great hosts in Mark and Margy have made our stay all the more enjoyable, with no request too tall. Our children (and adults) will remember these couple of weeks for the rest of their lives. Spending time with family can be difficult with busy lives but these weeks have allowed us that luxury.

Thank you for a wonderful week in Les Capucines. The big group of Danes, 23 kids and adults, had a great time in your lovely gites. Most of the time we spent here with many hours in the spacious pool. We would love to return to this place and spend more time discovering the area.
We had a lovely relaxing break in Le Manoir. Our family ranged from 11-15 years plus 4 adults and made great use of the pool, ping pong and the garden (for water fights!). The Facilities of the gites were fantastic and we had a really great holiday. We would definitely like to return and see more of the area as a week was not enough!

We had a brilliant week – lovely and well equipped gite and Mark and Margy very helpful on where to go. Lovely beaches both North of Royan as well as North West of Ile D’Oleron.
Dear Mark and Margy, this extended family has had such a wonderful holiday here at Les Capucines. We cannot thank you both enough for allowing us to stay in your beautiful gites and for looking after us so well. Your cheerful advice has sent us to some lovely places and the weather has been perfect – just one wet day in fourteen!

For the first time our two families went on holiday together and, thanks to the splendid accommodation and your hospitality it turned out to be a huge success!!

Thank you Mark and Margy for a lovely stay. The weather has been a lot hotter than expected and the pool was a very welcome addition. Lots to see and do in the area and, if you get a chance, you should visit Le Chateaux Roche Corbon as it is beautiful and looks like something out of a fairy tale! La Rochelle, Rochefort and Ile de Re are all must see places and aren’t far away. Fouras and Royan have great sandy beaches and Fouras has a great little tidal pool. If you want to head a little further down south, Bordeaux makes a great day out.
The gite is well equipped and comfortable and has some stunning views over the countryside…don’t be surprised if you hear farm animals in the morning!

We have had yet another wonderful stay at Les Capucines … for the fourth year! Been to visit our favourite haunts and a visit to the Dune du Pilat and St Emillion is a must. As we have said every year, we will be back and we’re looking forward to it already! The kids have had a ball and loved the pool again!

“What a great place to stay. One week was not enough and we were lucky enough to get an extra 4 days at Les Capucines. Our gîte was so well equipped and clean and we wanted for nothing. Margy and Mark have most definitely gone that extra mile to provide home from home comforts.
The swimming pool is large, warm and inviting and each gîte has its own BBQ area with everything provided (except food of course). We can most certainly recommend Les Capucines as a great place to stay, you will not be disappointed. Margy and Mark are excellent hosts and they provide lots of local information which enabled us to plan our days out more effectively as we had no knowledge of the region. Apart from all else the La Rochelle area is a great place to holiday. There are so many places to see and lots to do all within an hour’s drive of Les Capucines.
Les Capucines is a perfect place to stay whether you want to relax around the lovely pool, sit outside your own private area of your gîte, or go out to visit the sites in this region of France.”
“Les Capucines was everything we were expecting and more, the gîte contained every creature comfort you could wish for and more! The kitchen is very well equipped. It was very clean and extremely well maintained, perfect for our family, 3 adults and two teenage children. It was lovely to be staying somewhere where the beds were so comfortable with lovely crisp sheets. Outside the gîte is a lovely garden with BBQ and table and chairs.
We particularly enjoyed the pool, it’s kept very clean, it is within a walled and securely gated area, there is a lovely terraced area with sun loungers and the water temperature was 28c every day. Nearby is a shady area for those who wish to keep out of the sun but still enjoy the pool. Kept near to the pool are inflatable toys, cushions for the sun loungers and sun umbrellas.
We had a fabulous holiday, Mark and Margy were wonderful hosts, we will return next year and will most certainly be recommending Les Capucines to our family and friends.”
“If you are looking to find the perfect spot to drop out of the rat race for a week or two then Les Capucines is the place for you. A peaceful spot which is what we were looking for as 3 adults but if there are children about you are ideally not too far from the major attractions in this lovely area of the Charente-Maritime. Beaches and amusements, shops and restaurants are no more than a short drive away.
Our gîte was very comfortable, spotless and very well equipped – a home from home in every way. We really liked the outside seating arrangement and made good use of it on the lovely warm evenings. The pool was brilliant and much utilized.
Mark and Margy were attentive but unobtrusive hosts and their restaurant suggestions were spot on.
We are regular visitors to South West France and will most definitely make a return visit to Les Capucines – one week was not enough!”

Absolutely fantastic 2 weeks at Les Capucines so sorry to be leaving. A wonderful place, so peaceful and relaxing but also plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. The accommodation is so well kept and provisioned and the gardens so beautifully maintained. We will definitely be making arrangements to come back next year.
This was our 3rd visit to France and was undoubtedly the best place we have ever stayed in. The gîte was well equipped, perfect for the four of us and a great base from which to visit some of the best parts of France.
Mark and Margy were excellent hosts … always around but low key – perfect!
Two weeks is not enough! A lovely welcome from Mark and Margy made us feel like we had the best neighbours next door, always there if you needed anything and totally approachable… not that we needed anything as it was all there! We have some really lovely memories of a great holiday. Thank you, our reintroduction to France has been superb – can’t wait to return.

What a beautiful place to come and stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here and the facilities were excellent. Mark and Margy were very accommodating and even delivered fresh courgettes, grown in their own garden. The children loved the pool and grandparents too!
