There are so many places in the area for boating and canoeing including the Marais Potevin (Green Venice), The Seudre river, Tonnay Boutonne and of course the Charente.
Cycling
The Charente Maritime is a cycling paradise whatever level you are looking for. For the more professional cyclists the area is criss-crossed with cycle routes throughout the beautiful surrounding countryside and on the coast. In addition there are dedicated areas for safe family cycling like on the gorgeous Island of Ile de Re.
Wine Tasting
There are a number of wine tasting options close by, notably in the World’s brandy capital Cognac with a variety of tours around its ancient chateaux or a little further afield around the red wine heart of the World in the vineyards of Bordeaux.
Fishing
Whether you enjoy the excitement of offshore fishing or a more tranquil fish on the multitude of rivers nearby there are many options available and include boat and rod hire.
Miniature Boats
A treat for adults and kids alike, Port Miniature is located in the beautiful town of Saint Savinien on the banks of the Charente. Motorised replica boats such as Mississippi steam – boats, tug boats, trawlers etc can be sailed around a beautiful lake with a working lock and lighthouse. Also adjacent to the lake are a variety of jumping castles … a kids wonderland!
Young Kids Adventure Park
Yaka-Jouer is another great place for the younger kids (1-14) with water slides, jumping castles, pony rides, trampolines, go karts and can be found at St-Laurent-de-la-prée, on the way to Fouras.
Water Parks & Sports
The Parc Aquatique de Ile d’Oleron is a water park paradise for all the family, particularly those who like a little extra excitement with artificial surf waves, exhilarating water slides etc.
The west coast of Ile d’Oleron is also a great place for those surfers who prefer to catch a real wave.
Adventure Playgrounds
These are two adventure playgrounds that have been recommended by previous guests for children of 5 and over. Indian Forest and the Coolongalook Adventure Park make a great change from the beach and are very adventurous, but safe. They also rate very highly with Trip Advisor as activities in the Royan Area.
The Aquarium
With a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and considered as one of the World’s best, the Aquarium at La Rochelle is an amazing under water experience. You can spend a couple of hours exploring the sea and its mysteries and meeting its inhabitants … from the delicate fluorescent jellyfish to the impressive collection of sharks.

Zoos
