The Area…
The Charente-Maritime is situated on the south west coast of France which enjoys long hot summers and is known as the “western Mediterranean” with the second highest number of sunshine hours in France after the Cote D’Azur – although not nearly as crowded or expensive!
The combination of the words “Charente” and “Maritime” help capture the magic of this very french region, producing the best from the land – with Cognac grapes, fields of sunflowers and corn – as well as from the sea, with fresh oysters, mussels, prawns and a wide variety of other seafoods.

The Charente-Maritime is centrally located with the Atlantic and its 150 mile coastline and golden beaches to the west; ancient towns and villages along the majestic Charente river, such as Saintes and Cognac, to the east; the grand Châteaux of the Loire Valley to the north; and the magnificent rolling countryside and vineyards of the Dordogne, Bordeaux and the Gironde to the south. This makes the area easily accessible to so many wonderful towns and activities and ensures that you, your family and friends of all ages have plenty to do during your stay at Les Capucines.
